The Christmas Tag 2014

It's Christmas Eve and I'm writing this post whilst listening to Band Aid! The seasonal cheer is officially in full swing and it's time to take a trip down a rather festive lane to talk all things Christmas. Don't forget to take a look at the lovely Lottie Pearce's blog where I first found this tag!

1. What is your favourite Christmas Movie/s?
Either The Holiday or The Muppet's Christmas Carol, though in all honesty I'll watch and love absolutely anything if it's remotely festive!

2. Do you open your presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning?
Christmas morning! I can't imagine cracking into my gifts the night before. Besides, Santa wouldn't have put them there yet...

3. Do you have a favourite Christmas memory?
I don't really have one specific memory, I more love the general festive atmosphere of the Christmas season! Though one of my favourite festive days was definitely going to the German Market in Birmingham for my first official date with my boyfriend three years ago, it always holds a special place in my heart!

4. Favourite festive food?
Stuffing! I only realised this year that stuffing wasn't solely a Christmas food but I still associate it with the big feast. Being vegetarian I also adore a good nut roast, and as a chocaholic any Quality Street kicking around are more than welcome.

5. Favourite Christmas gift?
I actually can't think of any one gift! I tend to ask for and receive several smaller bits than big main presents as such but I much prefer that anyway. I am such a fiend for pretty little bits and pieces that I can use regularly so anything along that line is well-loved! I also adore giving people gifts, especially people that don't often buy for themselves - I'm looking at you Mummy - so Christmas is the best time of year for that!

6. Favourite Christmas scent?
If you've been reading for a while you'll know this one; the Sparkling Spice Winter Warmer by The Country Candle Company! Beyond divine.

7. Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?
Rushing around with my Mum like a pair of lunatics delivering presents to family friends! Though we've started a tradition this year that as we watch The Holiday all year round and it is our absolute favourite film, we're now going to have a 'Christmas Fettuccine' each Christmas Eve, just like Cameron and Kate. Creamy white wine pasta may not be festive, but it sure is scrumptious.

8. What tops your tree?
A little gold wire reindeer.

9. As a kid what was the one (crazy, wild, extravagant) gift you always asked for but never received?
I just asked my Mum and she couldn't recall anything too wacky, but I distinctly remember wanting the black PVC thigh high boots that Christina Millian wore in the Dip It Low video when I was 11. Such a shocker that she didn't buy them for me. #slutchild

10. What's the best part about Christmas for you?
The films, the food and the family! I am such a festive person and adore getting cosy and really into a holiday, and am also a massive foodie. Plus my Mum and I are super close, so spending the day with her indulging in all of our favourite meals and watching cute films is as good as it gets for me!

I just want to wish everyone who reads my blog the Merriest of Christmases, and a massive thank you to all of you for reading and commenting.
Have a wonderful festive period and I'll be back very soon!

A Festive Sunday in London

Last Sunday, I woke up at the crack of dawn to hop on a coach to the capital city. My best friend Holly (who you've probably seen in previous day trip posts such as Besties Take Brighton) and I were desperate to have a festive day up in London and finally set a date. We started off in Notting Hill - I'd never been but loved the film (hello walking cliché) so thought it would be nice to start our morning wandering through Portobello Road Market and buying beautiful silver jewellery that we definitely didn't need. We then headed over to Harrods which was a particularly stressful experience - I can't say I'd recommend going to one of the busiest stores in the world two weeks before Christmas on a Sunday! - before heading to the festive motherland; Hyde Park's Winter Wonderland.

Winter Wonderland

My OOTD: Grey faux fur gilet - Select, gold sequin jumper - Primark, fairisle scarf - market, black jeans - Topshop, grey knee high boots - Phase Eight, black handbag - Primark

Holly's OOTD: Beige hat - H&M, black coat - ASOS, faux fur stole - Accessorize, plum jeans - Topshop, black over the knee boots - Next, black leopard print handbag - Clarks

Lastly I've taken a photo of the jewellery I bought on Portobello Road. Aside from the moonstone ring in the centre, all of the jewellery was purchased from markets at the top of the street. The stone bangle was £20 (down from £35, you've got to love a good haggle), whilst the rings were £20 for the two (originally £16 for the star ring and £12 for the love plate ring). I could have dropped a financial bomb on those markets, they definitely saw me coming with all of their sparkly jewels!

If you're into individual silver pieces I would highly recommend heading down to Notting Hill, and if you're a festive fiend like me you have to visit Winter Wonderland! I was expecting it to be really commercialised and expensive but the atmosphere was so exciting and happy and we had a particularly euphoric moment during our ferris wheel ride when they played Coldplay's Christmas Lights - see my Instagram @laurenjadepike for evidence!

Have you been to Portobello Road Market or Winter Wonderland? I'd love to hear any of your Christmas hotspot recommendations!

Angel Face: Victoria's Secret Inspired Makeup Tutorial

In celebration of the world's most lovable lingerie brand flying the UK flag this week, I'm presenting you with a Victoria's Secret inspired makeup look! Glowy, soft and for once not bronzed up to the nines, hit 'Read More' below to find out how I achieved it.

Victoria's Secret fashion show 2014 inspired make up look beauty bbloggers vs vsfs Candice Swanepoel

I began barefaced having cleansed with my Lancome Gel Eclat cleanser, then prepared my face with the Nivea Express Hydration Primer (a moisturiser-primer duo that I am loving this winter).

First of all it is important to note what was intended for the London edition of the Victoria's Secret beauty look. Rather than the usual contoured and bronzed skin, the make up was applied to reflect the show's location, meaning they went slightly paler than they normally do, and for a much softer makeup look overall. No contouring, no false lashes and no liquid eyeliner, the Angels rocked a much more paired down look, though still went full glam with a glowy complexion.

(Urban Decay Vice 3 eye palette, Rimmel Stay Matte powder, L'Oreal Glam Bronze bronzer, Collection 2000 blush, MAC Mineralize Skin Finish in Soft and Gentle, Amazon Sigma Dupe contour brush, New Look Pure Definition mascara, Amazon eyeshadow brush, Real Techniques All Over Face brush, MAC eyeshadow in Charcoal Brown, Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation in Light Beige, Models Own angled brush, Rimmel Wake Me Up concealer, Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection concealer, Real Techniques Expert Face Brush, L'Oreal Lumi Magique primer, Bareminerals Prime Time eyeshadow primer, Amazon eyeshadow brush, Shu Uemura lash curlers, Tanya Burr lipgloss in Afternoon Tea)

I started with my L'Oreal Lumi Magique primer, rubbing a small amount onto the tops of my cheekbones, the corners of my eyes and onto my cupids bow with my fingers, highlighting the areas to create that angelic VS glow. I then buffed in my Bourjois foundation with my Real Techniques expert face brush, hid any undereye darkness and blemishes with a mixture of the two concealers pictured above (making sure to go in a large V shape under the eyes to brighten the area), and finally powdered with my Rimmel Stay Matte powder. I contoured lightly around my cheekbones, temples and jaw with my L'Oreal bronzer before adding a light blush with my Collection 2000 blusher. This blush is actually years old and the shade name has rubbed off but it's a pretty flushed pink shade with a hint of rose gold shimmer. I finished my base with a generous buff of MAC's Soft and Gentle mineralize powder, adding extra glow on top of the previously liquid highlighted areas.

I then moved onto my eyes, priming them first with the Bareminerals Prime Time primer (the best I have used where creasing is concerned!) and filling in my eyebrows with MAC's Charcoal Brown and my angled Models Own brush. I then took my new Urban Decay Vice 3 palette and used the following shades: Last Sin all over the lid, a mixture of Undone and DTF in the outer corners, crease and lower lash line, and a very generous amount of Bobby Dazzler in the inner corners. I then took a mixture of Defy and Revolver and lined the outer corners of my upper lashes with the same Models Own angled brush - this is why it's important to do your brows first! I am a hardcore liquid liner girl (as you can see accidentally pictured in the contents of my makeup bag!) and tend to feel facially naked without it, but I really liked the soft effect that this shadow liner gave and felt it was more true to the original VS look. I then curled my eyelashes with my Shu Uemura lash curlers and coated them in New Look's latest mascara offering, Pure Definition. Having seen FleurDeForce rave about this recently I got my hands on some online and haven't looked back. I've found myself using it in favour of my high-end mascaras too, finding that it holds the curl throughout the day and doesn't print onto my brow bone.

I finished the the look with a quick layer of Tanya Burr's pale pink lipgloss 'Afternoon Tea'. I usually prefer to line my lips first, go in with a lipstick and finish with a gloss, but considering how relaxed and seemingly effortless the Angels' look was, I just used a dab of the gloss without the earlier steps.

And this is the finished look!

I really love this look and think it's so pretty and glowy for the daytime but could be really evening appropriate with just a slick of liquid eyeliner. After all, who better to inspire you than a group of Angels?

On another note, I'm off to Winter Wonderland in London today with my best friend, so if you want to get yourself into the Christmas spirit and keep up with my festive day out, follow me and say hello on Instagram @laurenjadepike!

Let me know if you like my Victoria's Secret inspired look and if you'll be recreating it yourself, I'd love to see!

Best Dressed: British Fashion Awards 2014

The British Fashion Awards is always a chic affair, but this year there are fewer looks for me that really stood out. Nevertheless, the looks that I did like I loved. Cara Delevingne wore perhaps my favourite ever dress of hers - a shimmering paneled gown by Burberry (obvs) - whilst Lily Donaldson wowed in a sheer bottomed strapless Osman gown. Aside from Felicity Jones' turn in sheer McQueen last month, this may be the first time I've seen an exposing gown like this look truly demure. Take a look at all of my favourite outfits of the evening after the jump!
