Besties Take Brighton

I hope none of you have an irrational dislike for Brighton, because this is my second seaside appreciation post in three months! (See the first here). I went to Brighton this weekend to visit my best friend Holly, and each time I visit I fall in love with the town a little bit more. The weather was so glorious this time, I just couldn't help but get very snap happy and fawn over all of the pebbled beaches and one-off eateries that Brighton has to offer!

I arrived on Sunday afternoon and after getting some gorgeous Japanese food and eating in the Pavillion Gardens, we headed to the beach for the evening.

The next day we took a little wander in The Lanes and had some tasty Mexican food at a place called Dos Sombreros, followed by a quick cupcake in the delightful Angel Food Bakery. We then hopped on the bus over to Hove. It was incredibly hot so we spent a while sunbathing on the Hove Lawns before heading down to the beach to dip our toes in the water.

After getting very tempted to go for an all out swim in the sea, we decided to walk back towards Brighton along the promenade, allowing a peek at the gorgeous Palmeira Square. Can I live here please?

We then got a delicious £3 pizza from a place called Piccolo and headed to the Pavillion Gardens before going home for a night of too many galaxy bars and movies.

Tuesday was my last day in Brighton, so we spent the later part of the day on the seafront again before going into a cordoned off area to watch England's last appearance in the World Cup.

The walk back to the station for my train home was so sunny and cheerful and I couldn't think of anything worse than leaving! Who needs London with a seaside wheel like this?

I'm so lucky that my best friend lives in such a gorgeous place. Though I adore my sandy-beached hometown just a few hours along the coast, I really adore Brighton and would love to live there in the future. I hope you've enjoyed this little tour through my weekend there and I'll leave you with my favourite shot of the weekend; our photobooth picture from Snooper's Paradise against the coloured beach huts of Hove.

Have you ever been to Brighton? What was your favourite place or thing to do? I hope you're all having a lovely summer so far, and be sure to stay tuned for my Monthly Favourites and Best Dressed posts coming up in the next few days!

The VERY Cheap Boots Haul

This may not be my most exciting haul, but it's definitely my cheapest. Very recently I discovered Treat Street, an online service created by Boots that allows you to gain advantage card points on things other than Boots purchases. You simply register, download the toolbar and then activate it when you're on one of their cooperating sites, such as Boohoo.com, iTunes, ASOS, or even thetrainline.com. Now I for one have spent a lot of money on trains over the past three years, and I only wish I had known about Treat Street sooner! Nevertheless, the amount of points I've gained through booking endless train tickets to and from the Midlands meant that today's purchases came with a £0 price tag. It. Felt. Good.

(Max White One Optic toothpaste, Colgate, £4.49; Milk & Honey lipbalm, Nivea, £1.99; Nail varnish in Optic Wave, nails inc., Free!; Lasting Finish by Kate Moss lipstick in 03, Rimmel, £5.49)

As you can see I purchased one of Kate Moss' Rimmel Lasting Finish lipsticks in 03, which is a brownish nude. In all honesty I do struggle to find nudes that suit me and tend to go for pale glosses or bright coloured lipsticks instead, but fingers crossed this will be the nude to change things! I also grabbed a Nivea Milk & Honey lipbalm after hearing Gabby over at velvetgh0st saying how much she loved it in this video. Finally I bought some toothpaste. Not very haul-worthy, I hear you mutter. It is when it comes with a free nails inc. polish, I retort. I was given the choice between a bright orange (which I would have gone for had I not already owned a colour almost identical) and this gorgeous turquoise. All in all, I paid for nothing, then got something for free. Boots, I love you.

Midnight in Paris

After moving back to my hometown and spending days somehow trying to fit two houses worth of clothes and books into one, I've finally had the chance to sit down and enjoy a film. I watched Midnight in Paris for the first time after returning from my long weekend in Paris two years ago when I went on a films-set-in-Paris marathon (think Amelie, Funny Face, How to Steal a Million). Rewatching it tonight has made me fall in love with Paris all over again, though I must admit I dream about the French capital on a daily basis. To fuel my love for the City of Light even further, I've compiled a few snaps of my own (see the original holiday post here, which was actually my second ever post!), as well as a few tumblr shots to indulge in some photography that I couldn't possibly master myself. Amuse toi bien!

Olivia Palermo for Brides Magazine

A long time lover of Olivia's style (see proof here), the news of her engagement back in January sent myself and millions of others into bridal hysteria with one big question: what would one of the world's most stylish women wear on her big day? For those who couldn't wait to find out, i.e. all of us, Brides Magazine did everyone a grand favour and gave us a few examples of how divine Olivia would look come the day the bells would chime. Elie Saab, feathers and undone ponytails galore, this shoot embodies the elegant-with-edge style that Olivia Palermo has become famous for, and I just can't get enough of it.

And for those who are more concerned with her beau than her gown, check out this adorable behind the scenes video, where the equally stylish Johannes Huebl makes a Prince Charming-esque appearance.

Best Dressed: CFDA Awards 2014

This post is a few days behind schedule, but I'm going to make a play for "better late than never", especially where such beautiful gowns are concerned. The CFDA Awards is always a well dressed event, but this year there were some real knockouts. It's rare that I can pick one absolute favourite look of any fashion-filled night, but Hilary Rhoda in J. Mendel has taken everyone else out of the game for me on this occasion. I'm also in awe of Liya Kebede's embellished ensemble and Alexandra Ambrosio's statuesque red Nonoo gown. Have a scroll through the images below to see who else made my list of the best dressed of the night.
