Best Dressed: May 2014

A hefty divide between pastel perfection and monochrome classics, this month's best dressed list sees plenty of event dressing. From Gucci to Magnum, the Billboards to CW parties (not to mention the Cannes Film Festival), May has given the common fashion lover plenty of ideas for what to wear to your next company-hosted soiree. Blake Lively and Mary Katrantzou make more than one appearance each, whilst new additions such as Lily James and Marina Diamandis make their first appearance in my best dressed lists in Ralph Lauren Collection and Fendi respectively. Let the wardrobe inspiration commence...

Tangible Treasures on Tumblr

Hello everyone! Just a quick post today as I'm in the middle of packing for my exciting trip to London tomorrow (get an idea of what I'll be taking with me here). I'm not sure about you guys, but I am a huge fan of tumblr, so I thought I'd give you a little taste of what you'd find if you were to visit mine! I frequently spend hours scrolling through and reblogging the beautiful images on my dashboard, so prepare yourself for couture, macarons, supermodels and food porn aplenty.

I'm always on the lookout for new tumblr blogs to follow, so do leave me a link if you have one yourself, and if not I hope you enjoyed having a little look at what all the fuss is about! Also be sure to follow me on Instagram @laurenjadepike if you're not already as I'm bound to be posting a lot of pictures as I trot around London town tomorrow!

Best Dressed: Cannes Film Festival 2014

Ah, Cannes Film Festival. The only other event than the Oscars that absolutely promises sartorial heaven. From the red carpet to the after-parties, let alone ultra-glam television appearances in Giambattista Valli (I'm looking at you Blake Lively), each year the best dressed ladies of Hollywood descend on one of the chicest cities in the South of France. An assortment of actresses and models make up my personal best dressed list, with plenty of sparkle and flowing locks all around. After all, can one ever be overdressed in the French Riviera?

Blake Lively - Gucci Première | Nadja Auermann - Dolce & Gabbana | Sofia Coppola - Louis Vuitton
Suki Waterhouse - Peter Pilotto | Isabeli Fontana - Tufi Duek | Cara Delevingne - Roberto Cavalli
Mr Turner premiere – May 15 2014Kendall Jenner - Chanel | Blake Lively - Chanel | Liya Kebede - Roberto Cavalli
Zoe Saldana - Valentino | Cate Blanchett - Valentino | Blake Lively - Giambattista Valli
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley - Gucci Première | Adriana Lima - Elie Saab | Jessica Chastain - Elie Saab
Vanessa Hessler - Christophe Guillarme | Jennifer Lawrence - Dior | Alessandra Ambrosio - Zuhair Murad

We all know Blake shone in Chanel, but I don't feel like enough attention has been given to Alessandra Ambrosio, who styled by Jennifer Mazur for most of her public appearances looked divine in a Spring/Summer 2014 Zuhair Murad jumpsuit. I was also pretty thrilled at the amount of Elie Saab gowns working the runway, as well as Vanessa Hessler's stunning sequin Christophe Guillarme dress. Who was your best dressed of the Cannes Film Festival?

FOTD: Date Night Beauty

This is just a very quick and unplanned post as I put a full face of make up on for the first time in over a week today (revision is not good for cosmetic use) and decided to take a few snaps before I left! I actually went for dinner with family but I think this makeup would be perfect for a date night or a meal out with friends so I thought I'd share it with you all.

I started with my base, for some reason skipping my beloved L'Oreal primer and going straight on with foundation and concealer. As I hadn't applied my glowng-from-within primer I didn't set my face with a powder as the foundation I'm using at the moment leaves a really pretty dewy finish when left alone. I used a bronzer, blush and highlighter on my cheeks, before filling in my brows with one of the light brown shades in the MUA palette. I then went for a light creamy-gold powder all over the lid, particularly focusing on the the inner corners for a little extra glow, before adding a medium brown shade to my crease and underneath my lower lash line. A thin slick of liquid liner and mascara done, I then moved onto the lips where I applied my favourite new purchase; Rimmel's Intense Colour Rush Balm in Boom Chicka Boom.

Bourjois Delice de Poudre bronzer, MUA's Undressed palette, Topshop highlighter, MUA Lolly blush, Model's Own eyeshadow brush, Natural Collection liquid eyeliner, Primark mascara, Real Techniques Expert Face Brush, Rimmel 25 hour Lasting Finish foundation, Collection 2000 concealer, Rimmel Intense Colour Burst Balm in Boom Chicka Boom, Model's Own blusher brush

We were only going for a casual meal on the Quay at a gorgeous Italian restaurant called Da Vinci's, so I wore this blue and white cami from Primark, a statement necklace from Topshop and basic blue jeans and ballet flats to keep things fairly relaxed. Here is a picture of my Mum and I before we headed out!

I hope you all liked this post and it's perhaps given you some inspiration for an upcoming meal out or date night beauty look. I'll be back in the next few days with my round up of the best dressed ladies of the Cannes Film Festival and until then I wish you all luck if like me you're studying for exams; they will be over before you know it!

Chanel | Pre-Spring/Summer 2015

A plethora of prints, textures and shapes, Karl's latest boucle-swathed collection mixes iconic Coco with the modernity of Dubai circa 2014. The collection commences with beautiful tweeds and patchwork houndstooth, before adding colours more conventionally associated with the Middle-East (see the centre image on the fourth row), where this pre collection took its inspiration from and was therefore shown. A move away from classic Chanel took us through an array of excessive floral prints, though staying true to Coco's legacy by featuring plenty of camellias. Add layered strings of long costume pearls and a little sparkle throughout, and you'll find that this Pre Spring/Summer 2015 collection is the perfect fusion of all things Chanel, both old and new.
